Many of us grew up believing that the key to success is taking our studies seriously. When I was a student, I prioritized my studies above all else. I always thought that high grades and academic recognition would take me to the top. I didnโt realize that by focusing too much on my studies, I had set aside other important aspects of life, such as valuing experiences that make student life more colorful. It is sad to think that being too serious led to a lack of memorable experiences when I was a student.
As time passed, I realized that intelligence alone is not enough to achieve success in life. In high school and college, I aspired to be among the top-performing students, but no matter how hard I tried, I could only achieve an average standing. I often relied on high grades, but that was not always enough to reach my dreams. There were times when I imagined what it would be like to be a deanโs listerโsomeone admired and looked up to. However, despite my efforts, I had to accept that there were limitations to what I could achieve.
One thing I did not consider back then was the importance of balance in life. By focusing too much on my studies, I neglected other valuable aspects of my journey as a student. If only I had spent more time socializing, creating happy memories, and discovering things outside the classroom, perhaps I would not feel a sense of lack now. It is difficult when people have high expectations of you, especially when you know there are limits to your abilities.
Now that I have already graduated from college and started working, I see the world differently. I have come to understand that not everything learned in school is applicable in real life. Many essential skills are not taught in the classroom, such as proper decision-making, dealing with different kinds of people, and the true essence of hard work in achieving success. Being intelligent is not enough because, in reality, the world values flexibility and creativity more.
Despite everything, I do not regret my dedication to my studies. What matters is that I have learned the importance of being educated and disciplined. Even though I did not receive special awards or recognition, my diploma serves as proof of my hard work and determination. Education is not just about high grades; it is also about the life lessons we learn along the way.
If there is one piece of advice I would like to share with younger students, it is the importance of balance. Yes, education is crucial, but it should not hinder you from exploring other aspects of life. Do not be afraid to make mistakes, try new things, and enjoy every stage of learning. Success is not only determined by intelligence but also by strategy, perseverance, and the right mindset in life.
At the end of the day, the most important lesson I have learned is not just about being educated but being prepared for the real challenges of life. Success is not measured by high grades but by how we use our knowledge to improve ourselves and help others. Life is not a competition to be the smartest; it is a journey in which we strive to make our existence more meaningful in this world.
